When I was a kid, I e'er wanted to primary the art of origami. I was fascinated by the folded paper creations – but origami books were confusing and I didn't have anyone to sit next to me and patiently teach me.
Just now we have the internet — and we tin can larn anything! So I am finally learning how to fold some basic origami and kirigami similar this five-point, one-cut folded newspaper star.
The word origami comes from the Japanese word "ori" which means "folding", and kami which ways "paper" and while it is mostly associated with its Japanese roots, nowadays origami refers to paper folding practices from diverse cultures. While original Japanese origami included the apply of cuts, modern origami does not include cut or glue, and folded designs that use cuts are called kirigami.
So, if yous want to go technical well-nigh such matters since this five-bespeak folded paper star design uses a cut to complete the design it is actually kirigami, not origami. But whatever you phone call information technology, folding these paper stars is and so fun so easy you won't be able to cease once you become the hang of information technology.
I made this video tutorial demonstrating origami star instructions, and then you can easily chief folding paper stars and I have also included a step by step photo tutorial for additional reference. So permit's get folding…
How to Make a Five-Point, One-Cut Paper Star
Step 1
Cut a square from a piece of paper or cardstock.
To make these paper stars, I used some handmade newspaper I bought years agone and had in my scrapbooking paper stash.
Yous can use any paper or cardstock, merely brand sure you cut information technology into a foursquare. Since the paper I had was 8.5″x 11″, I cut two.5″ off one side to make an viii.5″ten 8.v″
I then cut squares from the scraps to make my smaller stars.
Pace 2
Fold the square piece of newspaper in half with the open border facing you.
Step three
Create a creased intersection to marker the center of the left side of the folded paper.
I marked the creased intersection so it is easier to see for this tutorial, but you practise not need to marker yours. This role of the paper will be cutting off and will not be a part of your star.
Footstep 4
Bring the height right folded corner to the signal of intersection and press down folded edges.
Step 5
Fold dorsum and then the folded edges are affluent on the correct side as shown below.
Pace six
Fold height left corner down to the diagonal folded edge, equally shown beneath.
Step vii
Fold backward along the line where the diagonal folds meet.
Your folded piece will now have look like the photo beneath. If yous are confused at any time, spotter our video tutorial.
Step 8
Now, you will make i cutting to create the star. Where yous make this cutting will determine the size and shape of your star.
A wider cut will make a wider star and a tighter cutting will make a star with sharper points.
To make uniform stars, y'all can create a creased cut line by folding the triangle fold of paper back to the bottom fold, every bit shown beneath.
Cut along the folded crease.
Pace 9
Open the cutting triangle to reveal your star so refold the peaks and valleys that are going in the wrong direction.
One-half of the star has the correct peaks and valleys, but the other side volition need to be refolded in the correct direction. The long folds should exist peaks and the short folds should be valleys.
And now your star is complete…
You can pierce the tops and thread onto a cord or ribbon to make a garland or hang them on your walls or however y'all wish to utilize them to decorate.
